CALAMA TO CALAMA VIA UYUNI & EDUARDO AVAROA RESERVE – 4 DAY ROUND-TRIP TOUR

Day 1 – Calama → Ollagüe → Andean Lagoons & Landscapes

Early departure from Calama, driving east across the Atacama and high Andes toward the Ollagüe–Avaroa border crossing. After completing border formalities, enter Bolivia and begin exploring the Altiplano’s vast landscapes. The day focuses on colorful Andean lagoons surrounded by volcanoes and open plains, with frequent opportunities to observe flamingos, vicuñas, and other high-altitude wildlife. Stops include dramatic desert scenery and the colorful Siloli Desert as you continue deeper into the southwest.

Day 2 – Eduardo Avaroa Reserve & Geothermal Areas → Southern Uyuni Region

Today is dedicated to exploring the heart of the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve. Visits include Arbol de Piedra, Laguna Verde and Laguna Blanca, volcanic terrain, geothermal fields, and a stop at natural hot springs set within vast high-altitude desert scenery. As the day progresses, landscapes gradually open toward the southern edge of the Uyuni Salt Flats, passing through remote valleys and wide desert expanses.

Day 3 – Full Day Uyuni Salt Flats Exploration

A full day dedicated to discovering the immense Uyuni Salt Flats. Drive across the salt surface and, during the dry season, visit Incahuasi Island for sweeping views across the flats. In the rainy season, the landscape transforms into a giant mirror reflecting sky and clouds. Sunset on the salt flats is a highlight of the day, offering dramatic light and unforgettable colors.

Day 4 – Uyuni → San Cristóbal → Valley of Rocks → Ollagüe → Calama

After breakfast, depart Uyuni and travel south through the historic mining town of San Cristóbal. Continue to the impressive Valley of Rocks, known for its wind-carved formations and surreal scenery. Cross back into Chile via the Ollagüe border area and return to Calama by the end of the day.

Is this tour guided the entire way?

Yes. The tour can be operated with a bilingual guide (Spanish–English) or with a Spanish-speaking driver, depending on the travelers’ preference.

Is this a private tour?

This tour is operated primarily on a private basis. In some cases, different parties may be combined to form a small group, although this is not guaranteed.

How is pricing calculated?

What type of vehicle is used?

The tour is operated in reliable vehicles suitable for high-altitude and off-road conditions.

How can I upgrade to the RV Camper option?

You may upgrade on one or more nights when it’s available (see itinerary, namely in the Salt Flats) in place of the other accommodation tiers. Simply request it at the time of booking.

Can the itinerary operate in reverse?

Yes. The route can be run Calama → Uyuni → San Pedro de Atacama with the same highlights in reverse order.
