DAY 1

LA PAZ - SAJAMA NATIONAL PARK

We begin our Sajama National Park journey in the vibrant city of La Paz. Leaving the city behind we drive west, past the city of El Alto towards the Chilean border through a modern highway. We make several stops along the way in order to appreciate the vast Andean Altiplano, an archaeological site and natural geological formations.

Just past noon, we arrive in Sajama National Park for lunch and right after we set out to explore the park. You may choose to make a simple, moderate or demanding hike after which you may relax in the natural hot springs in the park. Discover a local village and interact with locals if you wish. Learn about the endemic “kheñua” tree and other native flora.

At the end of the afternoon, relax watching sunset over the towering Parinacota and Pomerape volcanoes before spending a tranquil evening with warm dinner included.

DAY 2

SAJAMA NATIONAL PARK - LA PAZ

This morning is left exclusively to discover more of Sajama National Park’s natural beauty. A short morning drive from Sajama village brings us to a geyser field a few minutes from town which we have all to ourselves to explore.

Once again we have the opportunity to set out on an easy, moderate or demanding hike among local flora and fauna and to discover more scenic views of the western Andes range.

After lunch, we spend the rest of the afternoon making our way back to La Paz not before stopping at scenic, natural sites along the way which will allow for short walks and photographic opportunities.

Arrival in La Paz between 6-7 PM depending on traffic in town.

• This trip is suitable for those who enjoy a moderate to advanced level of hiking in mountainous terrain
• Accommodation in Sajama National Park is basic with no actual heating though plenty of blankets on a soft bed are available
• Sajama is a high altitude, mostly cold weather environment
• Offroad driving is involved, although an average of only 3 hours’ driving per day is needed

• This trip is ideal for travelers looking to get out of hectic La Paz and experience traditional countryside not so far from the city
• Ideal trip for those who like a mix of off-road driving, sightseeing and physical activity
• It is important to be at least moderately acclimatized to be able to hike up and down for a few hours at high elevation. In addition, you should be decently fit to be able to enjoy the available hikes though not mandatory
• The landscape and temperature are those of the typical Bolivian highlands, dry, sunny and cold (during the day when it is sunny temperature is pleasant, around 10-15°C). Bring appropriate clothing and sun protection
