SALINAS & AGUADA BLANCA RESERVE - SALT FLATS DAY TRIP FROM AREQUIPA

ITINERARY

Welcome to the day of what might just be the best day you could possibly have while in the Arequipa region (yes, over the Colca Canyon!).

We head out of the city to visit the quaint village of Chiguata, its colonial remnants set against a magnificent backdrop of the snowy (in winter) peaks of Mt. Misti.

We continue on to Salinas & Aguada Blanca National Reserve, Arequipa’s best kept secret, where we plan to visit the undiscovered Salt Desert (yes, that’s right, we have salt flats as well). After a short break for snacks, we climb higher making our way over a high pass (~4000m) providing wonderful views of the Andes mountains and Alpine meadows with typical Andean wildlife.

We will have the opportunity to do a relatively short but demanding high-altitude hike to experience the great outdoors first hand. This afternoon It's time to fully immerse yourself in the Salinas Salt Flats with the whole place to yourself way away from the crowds.

Put sunglasses on and play around to get the perfect - fun - deep-perspective photograph. Weather-permitting, we may be able to soak the medicinal powers of a natural hot spring pool before making our way back to Arequipa.
